C-Section & abdominal scar massage

What is it?

Scars can continue to wreak havoc within the body long after they look to be healed. Under the surface, they can create a lot of restriction, pulling and dragging to the surrounding tissues which can affect pain and movement throughout the body.

C-Section and abdominal scars are very deep and can run through multiple layers of tissue.  This can result in back pain, poor posture, poor breathing patterns, pelvic pain, digestive issues and much more.

Who is it for?

Regardless of the age of the scar, scar therapy can provide amazing results.

It is essential that any scars are healed before any massage or scar work can take place around the area.

This treatment is suitable for all types of abdominal surgery, not just c-section.

For some people scars can be very emotional and can be a reminder of traumatic experiences. I always work with you to feel comfortable and create a bespoke service to ensure that you feel comfortable moving forwards.

What to expect

Each treatment is bespoke to the needs of the client but can typically include;

  • postural assessment – this is a great starting point to see how your scars may be affecting your body
  • breathwork – I will be looking at ways to help improve your breathing function
  • hands on massage work directly to the scar and to surrounding areas
  • massage tools – cupping and IASTM techniques are both very effective when working with scars
  • pelvic floor assessment – to help tie together the breath, pelvic floor and core function
  • kinesiotaping – often to help reduce swelling around newer scars and to help with posture
  • self massage techniques – I will show you some ways in which you can massage your scar at home to help with your recovery
  • exercises – to help improve core function and strength
  • nutrition advice to help aid tissue recovery

In order to work effectively, I will need to be able to easily access your scar/s so you can expect to undress down to your underwear where necessary. I use large sheets to ensure that your dignity is maintained throughout.

Although improvements can often be seen and felt after the first session, a minimum of 3 sessions are advised for optimal results.

No, not at all. Improvements can be made, even on very old scars.

This will vary from person to person. It is not uncommon to see or feel good results after just one session but typically a minimum of 3 sessions is advised.

I will need to able to access your scar to work directly on to and around it. I advise that you will need to undress down to your underwear but you will be covered with sheets or towels to ensure that you feel relaxed and comfortable.
